TRACTION CONTROL
Traction control is an assistant to ABS (Anti Lock Braking system). The traction control helps the tyres to overcome the slip that causes due to sudden acceleration or due to abnormal surfaces.
Traction system comprises of sensors attached to the brakes and are interfaced to the ECU(Electronic Control Unit).Assume that you're driving in a very muddy or snow surface, once when you bring the car to rest the car will come to rest as usual.
After the halt again you will start the car and accelerate it to bring it into motion. But at this time the muddy/snow surface will make the wheel to spin abnormally i.e it causes wheel spin. This makes the vehicle to go out of control.
The wheel spin caused by cars due to abnormal surfaces are controlled by the distributed sensors attached to the wheels. The ECU unit contains the program for the working of the Traction Unit. The sensors attached to the brakes senses the wheel spin which is abnormal and it passes its interrupt to the ECU and it controls the wheel spin by distributing the braking force to the wheels. Its just similar to ABS but not exact.
Traction control works in all types of roads. Now all modern cars are available with this facility.
